Having travelled to Italy for the first time this Summer, coming from Australia, I was quickly immersed and taken away into the exhilarating and exciting world of European fashion. Studying Fashion Events and Public Relations this July at the European Institute of Design in Florence, I found myself working with the D.A.T.E. premium sneaker brand and became quickly inspired by the fast-paced yet welcoming world of DATE*HUB. Our brief was to create a launch party for D.A.T.E.’s first ever apparel collection, with the event being held in 3 weeks time. The apparel collection included fun and colourful clashing prints with block colours. The range had great variety for both men and women presenting vests, bomber jackets, t-shirts, jackets and much more.
One of the greatest experiences in organising the event was learning to understand both the origins and future of the D.A.T.E. ideology in order to be able to successfully understand the brand and it’s needs. I spent hours online scrolling through the brilliantly vibrant artworks that flowed through the pages of DATE*HUB, watching cleverly authentic video clips and enjoying the electronically mastered GIF’s depicted online. The main challenge for the brief was to uniquely bring the guests on the night from offline to online. In today’s world, social media plays such a fundamental role in society both economically and socially. As a Public Relations practitioner of today, it is so important that social media be factored into the organisational features of any event to maximise market potential.
Therefore it meant that we had to invent a fresh new social media strategy that fell inline with D.A.T.E.’s goals and objectives for the future growth of D.A.T.E. and to also build the hype of their first ever apparel launch. The team decided that running competitions through Facebook, Instagram, running live news feeds on the walls with projectors and also word of mouth were the appropriate avenues for the event’s social media coverage. The social media became a great success with the news feeds projected onto the walls moving through tags, comments, likes and shares at a rapid pace energising the D.A.T.E. social media profiles.
The event’s feel was arty, young and vibrant, held in the spaciously high-tech rooms of IED, a stylish guest list and great sponsors helped create a memorable night. The sponsors of the night included Poderedi Pomaio, a Tuscan wine company and also Pilsner Urquell, a local beer company. The event focussed on the inspirations founded through in-depth company research of ‘creation has no limit’s. We felt this tagline represented the D.A.T.E. brand and displayed the future endeavours and potential of their designs. Our event was based on the idea that creation has no limits and was built from things we had sourced around IED such as white tables, wooden crates, clear plexiglass boxes, various blends of wool, strings, metal hat stands and art displays. We had a live painting demonstration from a local painter, IUCU’s [Firenze FU*TURISTA] who created an artistically encapsulating painting to help convey the underlying themes of art meets fashion through D.A.T.E.
We decided that we should bring elements of DATE*HUB to life to foreshadow the launch of the DATE*HUB apparel launch by projecting various images and videos onto the walls sourced from DATE*HUB. This kept the rooms energised, created guest curiosity and again helped to convey the artistic theme we felt represented the D.A.T.E. brand.
Overall the event was extremely successful with many guests having attended, we felt that the launch of the apparel collection was ambient and inline with the themes and blends of the D.A.T.E. brand. The colourful and fun apparel collection will soon be available to the general public!
